SURFACE DESIGN
with Corley

Corley is a multidisciplinary artist based in the Alberta Badlands. She is a potter & illustrator with passion for painting, drawing, the fibre arts, and writing.

She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Arts, and actively pursues opportunities for further education.

Her current practice focuses on development of sculptural skills, with work influenced by her surroundings. She enjoys applying her illustration skills in the surface decoration of functional wares, and is constantly pushing her work further as she explores methods of working with and firing clay.

Meet Corley

Join ceramic artist and Wedge member Kyra for Wedge’s inaugural sculpting workshop! This two-part class will guide you through the process of creating a bear using sculpture techniques. The workshop is a great introduction to sculpture and will cover essential topics like different clay types, clay memory, and structural considerations.

In the first class, you’ll focus on creating the outline of your sculpture, learning both reductive and additive sculpting techniques, with an emphasis on reductive methods. You’ll also explore various tools, textures, and finishes to personalize your piece. The second class will be dedicated to hollowing out your sculpture, refining fine details, and preparing it for drying and kiln firing. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a beautifully crafted bear sculpture and a solid understanding of the techniques needed for successful ceramic sculpture work.

When: October 1 and 8, 6-9pm

How much: $170 per person (all materials and bisque fire)

It takes time for clay to dry and be fired. Your sculpture will be bisque fired by Wedge staff. Wedge members are welcome to glaze or decorate their piece during their membership hours. Non-members will be able to glaze or decorate their piece on their own time for an additional fee. Refunds will be given if registration is cancelled up to 24 hours after booking. After 24hrs, no refund or credit will be offered.
